custom web application development

Not every web application problem has an off the shelf product solution. That's why Acsys has been building complex custom web applications on a wide variety of platforms for clients for more than 15 years.

Acsys can work with you to analyze your need and build the application for you, or work as an extension of your internal technical team. In addition, we will work to see if there is an existing product (such as a CMS platform like SharePoint, Vignette or Drupal) that can serve as a foundation for the development effort so the application does not need to be built entirely from the ground up.

Acsys will also work with you to determine which technology stack best fits your needs, from Microsoft and its .NET Framework, to Java EE, to open source such as PHP or Ruby on Rails.

Regardless of the technology stack used, another important aspect of custom development is ensuring a Source Control Management (SCM) system, and ensuring best practices are in place and in use. Acsys has experience and practice with using industry leading SCM systems. Too often SCM is overlooked, to the long term detriment of team productivity and application maintenance - don't let that happen to you.

Microsoft

Acsys has extensive experience using the full gamut of Microsoft technologies to solve business problems.

  • .NET Framework and associated technologies including asp.net, asp.net MVC, entity framework, LINQ, asp.net Ajax, C#, vb.net, etc.
  • SQL Server, including Integration Services and Reporting Services
  • SharePoint Windows Services and Microsoft Office SharePoint Server
  • Windows Services implementations
  • Microsoft Message Queues
  • Windows Communication Foundation (WCF)
  • Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF)
  • Windows Workflow Foundation (WF)
  • Windows Server 2003 and 2008
  • Internet Information Services (IIS)

Underlying our .NET framework implementations is a foundational class library and consistent set of design patterns and coding practice.

Microsoft solutions come with the benefit (and to some the risk) of a single vendor, and a robust, mature set of developer tools.

Java

Java is one of the most popular programming languages available to an enterprise developer today. There are dozens of web-frameworks and application servers, open-source or commercial, available to a Java developer. The programming language offers easy to learn syntax and integrates well with other systems and legacy applications. Major database products, such as Oracle and DB2, offer full support for Java language and work well with Java-based solutions.

Acsys has Java developers and architects skilled in Java server-side and web development ready to help you with your Java projects.

  • Struts 2 framework
  • JSF framework
  • Spring MVC and Hibernate
  • JSP and Servlet development
  • Apache Tomcat Application Server Configuration and Tuning
  • Caucho Resin Application Server Configuration and Tuning
  • IBM WebSphere Portlet Development
  • BEA WebLogic Portlet Development

PHP

Have you ever wondered what high profile web sites, such as Wikipedia, Facebook, Flickr, and Yahoo, were developed in? These sites and many millions other were implemented with PHP and run on LAMP - Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP, or similar PHP runtime environment.

PHP is a server-side scripting language that was created more than 10 years ago. Unlike other languages that can be used for desktop, mobile, or other development, such as Java, Perl, Python, etc, PHP was built specifically for the web development. The programming language is tightly integrated with web browser technologies (HTML, CSS, and JavaScript) and allows developers to quickly create web sites.

Acsys is part of the PHP community and contributes to open source projects. Acsys has experience in different PHP web frameworks (Zend, Symfony, other MVC frameworks) and can help with your PHP project.

Open Source

Open source custom web application development has typically meant LAMP - Linux, Apache, MySQL and PHP (or Perl or Python). However, over the last several years other open source solutions such as Ruby on Rails and Django have emerged. The main benefit to open source technology is that the cost of ownership is lower; there are little or no licensing costs. However that is also to their detriment, you have no framework vendor to call for support. But there is where Acsys shines - we have the capabilities to support existing open source solutions as well as building new ones.
